John T Chambers

Nationality: American

Year of Birth: 1949

Work History: John joined IBM as a mainframe sales representative in 1976. He continued on the post until 1983 - he was then recruited as Senior Vice President of US Operations in Wang Laboratories. By 1991, he joined Cisco as Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Operations. On 1995, he was chosen as the chief executive officer of Cisco Networks. He continues to serve the company in the same post.

Education: John had attended Duke University in 1967. He secured a BS in Economics from West Virginia University in 1971. By 1974, he was pursuing law at the same university. He also secured Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University in 1975.

Bio: Although a leading innovator when it came to networking products, Cisco was experiencing failing sales by the 90s. After John was roped in as the chief executive officer of the company, the average sales grew by $1.2 billion. Although he leads a secluded lifestyle, unlike some of his peers, Chamber is a capable man when it came to administering business strategies. By 1996, he was appointed the chairperson of the board of directors - the directors seemed to be highly impressed by the innovativeness attributed by Chambers.

Chambers led an active political life and contributed generously to various political factions in the United States. He is also well known for being a philanthropist. Chambers - a man who was committed to what he did, did not falter during unlikely times. Although he committed many blunders during his days in Cisco - a notable one being the laying off approximately 18 percent of the company's workforce - for which he had repented at a later date, he had a vision to succeed. Critics complained that he used to blindly follow the practices of his idol (Jack Welch, the CEO of GE).

Chambers stressed on the importance of internet on every public appearance. According to certain industry experts, he always acted as "the poster child for the internet" - and he believes strongly in online marketing and online advertising - just as much as he does in internet business. He cannot be blamed because at least 50 percent of the networking products employed worldwide for various applications is manufactured and maintained by Cisco.
