John W Thompson

Work History: In 1971, John joined IBM as a sales clerk. By 1975, he was promoted to the branch manager (Atlanta). In 1979, he was transferred to Boston and was allocated the duties of regional administrative assistant. In 1984, he was made an assistant to the chief executive officer. He continued to work in the same company until 1999. Then by 1999, he was absorbed by Symantec (the company behind Norton Antivirus Products) and was made the president, the chief executive officer and the chairperson for the board of directors.

Education: The Florida A&M (Agricultural and Mechanical) University awarded John a degree in Business (BA) in 1971. He also obtained his MS in management from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in 1983.

Bio: Steadfastness and dedication to his duties helped John W Thompson to migrate from the conventional role of a sales person to the post of the chief executive officer. Despite spending a good share of his life working with IBM, John was diligent when it came to taking decisive strategies in Symantec. According to insider sources, John dealt the migration from IBM to Symantec in a diplomatic manner. As a piece of trivia, John worked closely with current poker professional Barry Greenstein while at Symantec!

John W Thompson was handed over the reins of a multinational company that was solely making profits by selling antivirus solutions to households and corporate establishments.
