Work History: Kamath handled the Project Finance Division of ICICI (Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India) for a brief period in 1971 before joining Asian Development Bank in 1988. By 1996, Kamath was back in India and once again began working with ICICI. Currently, he serves as the non-executive chairperson of ICICI Bank. Kamath still exercises his skills for the uplift of IIM-A, Indian School of Business, National Institute of Bank Management and Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

Education: Kamath holds a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (then known as the Karnataka Regional Engineering College) in 1969. He subsequently joined IIM-A (Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad) to obtain his Masters in Business Administration.

Bio: KV Kamath is an enterprising person who harnessed ample exposure to intricate financial matters while he was serving at ICICI in 1971. Although he was asked to manage the Project Finance Division, throughout the years, he was placed on various other sub-divisions within the same corporation. Kamath thankfully remembers those years. According to him, those experiences helped him to build a strong portfolio, which he exercised deftly in the rest of the years.

Kamath is well known for his love of technology. His efforts ultimately lead to the computerization of ICICI. In recognition of this achievement, the Asian Banker Journal of Singapore granted him the title of the most e-savvy CEO present in Asia. Even today, ICICI Bank Ltd features one of the most sophisticated and technology derived banking system. After returning to India, Kamath played decisive roles that led to the formation of ICICI Bank Ltd. Then he was operating as the Managing Director and CEO of the bank. Various non-banking institutions were merged with the parent company and Kamath was always present for the discussions!

In recognition of his achievements, numerous other prestigious awards were also bestowed to him. Forbes Asia had selected him as the businessperson of the year. The World HRD Congress picked out his name for the best CEO for innovative HR practices. Despite leaving his post in ICICI, he still serves as a mentor to the organization.
