Work History: Nandan Nilekani was initially hired by Patni Computer Systems Pune, India. Certain disagreements with the employers convinced him to concentrate on Infosys - another leading software exporter in India. By 2002, he was nominated as the CEO of Infosys. He resigned from the position by 2007 and was subsequently announced as the co-chairperson of the same company. In 2009, under direct instructions from the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, he was singled out to act as the chairperson of Unique Identification Authority of India.
Education: Nandan Nilekani graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai in 1978.
Bio: Nandan Nilekani gelled perfectly with his co-workers. His friendship with NR Narayana Murthi had cost him his job at Patni Computer Systems. Still, Nandan believed in equality and obeyed NR Narayana Murthi, who returned the favor by giving him strategic positions in Infosys. The former worked in close liaisons with Nandan Nilekani and formulated various company policies. Even though, Nandan Nilekani was given the role of the CEO only by 2002, he was already acting as the unofficial adviser of Mr. Murthi.
Nandan Nilekani was a proficient speaker, and he often spoke on behalf of the company on various occasions. While working in Infosys, he co-founded the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM). Being a diligent entrepreneur, he, likewise, cared for The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE). Nandan also partook on making innumerable decisions that finally decided the future prospects of Infosys. Recently, he up with a book Imagining India and was even featured on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Nandan Nilekani did not require the aid of Masters in Business Administration to succeed in life. He was one of the youngest entrepreneurs to join the 20 global innovators on the World Economic Forum. Nandan also looks into the activities of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. In 2007, he was acknowledged as the Forbes Businessman of the Year. Fortune magazine also rewarded Nandan by handing over the prestigious Asian Businessmen of the Year in 2003. In 2005, he was awarded the Joseph Schumpeter Prize for innovative services in economy, economic sciences and politics.
