Terry S Semel

Nationality: American

Year of Birth: 1943

Work History: Before joining Warner Bros, Terry was enlisted in 1971 as the domestic sales manager at CBS - Cinema Center Films. By 1973, he was nominated the vice president and general sales manager of Buena Vista. Terry had also labored with Warner Bros for a period of 24 years until 1999 as the chairperson and co-chief executive officer. By 2001, he was appointed the chairperson and chief executive officer of internet services provider Yahoo Inc. In 2007, he was forced to resign from the post by stakeholders.

Education: Terry completed the Bachelor of Arts degree program in Accounting from Long Island University in 1964 and a degree in Master of Business Administration from City College of New York in 1967.

Bio: An industrious man, often well known for simplistic yet effective approaches, Terry had humble beginnings as an accountant. It was later that a mutual friend had introduced him into Warner Bros - one of the largest movie studios. It might be surprising to know that Terry had learned certain basic business administration elements being a wandering movie sales representative for Warner Bros.

Terry along with Robert Daly was solely responsible for the international recognition of Warner Bros. Change was eminent under the administration of Terry and the studio started witnessing greater heights with the revolutionary ideas put forward by the duo. During those days, when hundreds of entrepreneurs were trying their luck in movie studios trying to shape up a lucrative career, Terry was least bothered about the compensations. Innovative marketing strategies were developed under his guidance that helped Warner Bros attain a cult status in the country.

Terry initially had acted as the unofficial advisor to Yahoo Inc before being recruited as the chairperson and the chief executive officer of the company. Despite having meager knowledge about internet services, he could maintain the integrity of the company. Newer ideas were always encouraged by Terry and the much-needed corporate image was attributed to Yahoo Inc under his guidance. Terry had advocated the introduction of premium services to customers and often thought about online advertising as a secondary means to earn profits.
