Nationality: Indian
Year of Birth: 1950
Work History: Venu Srinivasan acts as Managing Director of Sundaram-Clayton Ltd (India's leading supplier of automotive spares). He also serves as the Chairperson and the Managing Director of TVS Motor Company Ltd. He, likewise, will serve as the President of the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry).
Education: Mr. Srinivasan graduated in Mechanical Engineering. Before he was entrusted with the family business, he managed to obtain his Masters in Business Administration from Purdue University, USA.
Bio: Mr. Srinivasan is a talented entrepreneur, and he has already proven his merit on countless occasions in the industrial circles. Being a mechanical engineer, he seemed to be the ideal candidate to take care of the family business. By 26, with the unlikely death of his father, Mr. Srinivasan had to take tough decisions. Within months of joining the company, he realized that the present business nature would never succeed in a long-term manner. For instance, TVS Motors manufactured and supplied air brakes and several kinds of castings.
Mr. Srinivasan understood that he could give that much needed face lift to the company by manufacturing two wheelers. Back then, the economic condition of India was also faltering. TVS Motors began manufacturing mopeds. It was an instant hit in Tamil Nadu (the state in India, where TVS Motors is located). For the very first time, people experienced two-wheelers that could carry two people. Many millions of TVS mopeds still plague the streets of this state.
Mr. Srinivasan also held talks with motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki that resulted in the release of a series of TVS-Suzuki motorcycles in the country. After some years, TVS Motors began to sketch plans for high performance motorcycles. The plans became a reality and currently, under the guidance of Mr. Srinivasan, the company is battling ahead and leading the competition.
During the later years, Mr. Srinivasan experimented briefly with consumer electronics and various kinds of white goods. Electronics giant Whirlpool began to lend their technical expertise. The project failed and instead of taking a break from the massive losses incurred, Mr. Srinivasan worked diligently to improve gross earnings of TVS Motors.
